Kyiv Spring 2008

The Tournament has taken place on May 2 — 4, 2008

There where two separate language tracks – for English- and Ukrainian-speaking debaters.

Ukrainian Language Track

17 teams form Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkov, Mariupol and Donetsk debated in Ukrainian Language Track. 8 teams therefrom broke to semifinals. 4 teams from 4 different cities debated in the Final – Donetsk, Kyiv, Mariupol and Kharkiv.

Winner — "16.12" team, Donetsk (Daria Zhuravska, Danylo Hrachov). Daria and Danylo became the two-time Kyiv Spring Winners following their triumph in 2006.

Resolutions:

1st Round: TH need a strong President.
2nd Round: THB that courts of jury must start working in Ukraine.
3rd Round: THW refuse to grant free medical service for people who settled in the estrangement zone without permission.
4th Round: THW control children's leisure.
5th Round: THW nationalize lands in Ukraine.
Semifinal: THW make the Security and Defense Council of Ukraine more effective.
Final: THW limit foreign capital in the Ukrainian banking sector.

English Language Track

Representatives of 13 European countries took part in the English Language Track. 8 teams from 32 broke to Semifinals. In the final teams from Russia, Estonia, Finland and Ukrainian-Abkhazian team debated to be announced a Winner.

Resolutions:

1st Round: THBT state should take obese children into custody.
2nd Round: THB that those who emigrate should repay the costs of their education.
3rd Round: THB that Russia should grant independence to any of its regions that request it.
4th Round: THB that women should fight on the front lines in military conflicts.
5th Round: THB that voting should be compulsory.
Semifinals: THW criminalize adultery.
Final: THB that European countries should refuse to host elements of the US anti-ballistic missile shield.
